New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

Who we are - Ko wai mātou
A great place to work. With great work to do.
We are Aotearoa New Zealand's financial markets conduct regulator, the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) - Te Mana Tātai Hokohoko. We stand for a trusted financial sector that treats people fairly.
The FMA's remit and regulatory approach is evolving to be outcomes-based, with a strong focus on facilitating fairer outcomes for everyday customers of financial services, as well as investors.
The Role - Te Tūranga
Due to an internal promotion, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Adviser to join our Financial Advice team in either Auckland or Wellington. Our Financial Advice team supervises & monitors the financial advice sector, including all Financial Advice Providers (FAPs) ranging from sole advisers, through to large banks, insurers and investment management providers.
This is a frontline supervisory role where you will have regular engagement with a wide range of FAP related financial market participants. The role is broad, and no two days are the same - as a Senior Adviser in this role you could be doing anything from leading an onsite monitoring review, to assessing potential cases of misconduct, to engaging with senior stakeholders (including C-suite level) in a regulated entity.
In this role, you'll get front row seats across the broadest and largest population of entities that FMA regulates which gives you scope to engage with various sectors of the financial markets.
About you - Ō pūkenga
If you have solid (5-10 years) operational risk, compliance, auditing or financial advice experience working within a bank, insurer, fund manager or elsewhere in the financial services industry, we would love to hear from you.
As a Senior Adviser, you'll need to be confident leading important pieces of work and coaching/mentoring more junior Advisers. To be successful, you'll need to demonstrate your project management/leadership qualities as well as your strong critical thinking skills, natural curiosity, and excellent communication skills - both verbal and written (this role involves a good deal of professional writing).
What we offer - Ngā painga
A strong emphasis is placed on life/work balance, enabling you to be at your best in every aspect of your life. We offer flexibility for working at home and in the office, plus a considerable annual leave allowance, an ability to swap public holiday leave with other days that mean more to you, generous parental leave provisions and a variety of regular wellness initiatives and activities.
We also offer extensive training and learning & development opportunities to ensure you're well equipped to thrive in your role, you will get to understand the financial services from the unique perspective of an outcomes-focused regulator.
