At Ara Poutama Aotearoa, the National Education programmes team is responsible for the development, procurement, oversight, quality assurance and review of education initiatives, provided to learners across the Corrections estate.
To achieve the departments Hōkai Rangi strategy we are committed to elevating Te Ao Māori perspectives to address the disproportionate over-representation of Māori in our prisons and serving community-based orders and sentences.
Ngā kawenga | About the role
The Senior Adviser Education Programmes role has responsibility for developing and managing a portfolio of education initiatives, predominately within our prison sites. You will provide sound educational advice to support delivery of educational provision. Your stakeholders will include prison sites, regional and national staff as well as external education providers, Māori providers, mana whenua, iwi, and the wider education sector. You will be working with a small and dedicated team of education exponents.
Education initiatives need to meet the current and future needs of our learners. This position offers the opportunity to make a difference by influencing at a national level, ensuring development of high quality, up to date, well-delivered programmes. Having practical proven experience working with Māori is essential as we work towards reducing the proportion of Māori in prison.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Knowledge of mātauranga Māori, tikanga Māori and practical experience supporting Māori learners to achieve great learning outcomes.
- Relevant experience within the education sector supporting learner success which may include: vocational, foundation, and/or adult education.
- Strengths in supporting industry training and/or working with neurodiverse learners an advantage.
- Desirable skills in contract management, project management, quality assurance, evaluation and/or review.
- Able to research/rangahau, analyse and present complex information to others in a form appropriate to the audience.
Utu ā-tau | Salary
The mid point of the salary range is $108,180 and the full range (85%-120%) is $91,953 - $129,816. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
