Are you an experienced professional with a background in local government, known for your calm temperament under pressure and strategic mindset? We're in need of a Senior Governance Advisor to become an integral part of our dynamic team, providing invaluable assistance in achieving our objectives. The focus of this role is to provide safe, accurate and timely governance advice, guidance and support to elected members, the Chief Executive and Council officers, observing relevant legislation and regulations.

As a Senior Governance Advisor, you'll be instrumental in ensuring our team achieves its objectives. This includes delivering top-notch governance support to the Council and its committees, providing timely advice on statutory obligations, and managing representation arrangements for local elections.

You will be someone with the ability to build and maintain strong and meaningful relationships with our various stakeholders and with our Tangata Whenua partners, cognisant of Council’s statutory Treaty obligations and tikanga. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, be pro-active, self-motivated and enthusiastic In this role you will establish and maintain close working relationships with a wide range of Council staff, particularly within the Strategy and Governance team, Māori Partnerships team and with the Executive Leadership Team and their executive assistants. To be successful in this key position, you will have extensive experience in local government (more important than any degree), with a focus on understanding council committee processes and a comprehensive understanding of the Local Government Act and LGOIMA.

You will also have:

- 3+ years proven advisory experience desirable.
- Relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Strong understanding of Council committee processes.
- A demonstrated ability to prepare clear concise reports and correspondence for a range of audiences.
- Knowledge of the Local Government Act, LGOIMA and other relevant legislation.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other database and information management systems
- Analytical skills.
- Confident ability to deliver effectively in pressure situations.
- Confident managing technology in Council meetings.
- Sound understanding of tikanga Māori and Māori values and an appreciation of how they relate to local government functions and resource management plan and policy development.
- Open minded and collaborative approach to working both within a team and with external stakeholders.
- Innovative and solution focused attitude.
- Resilience, adaptability, and flexibility to keep up with the ever-changing nature of HBRC

**What we offer | Nga huanga mōu**

Due to considering both a junior and senior level in our Governance Advisory spacethe salary range is broad. The senior role would be at the higher end of this scale. Our range is between $69,750 to $91,400 dependant on your level of qualification and experience.
