Mō te tūnga | About the role
This is a fixed term, full time role based in Wellington at Police National Headquarters where you will work to support He Aranga Ake, a multi-agency disengagement framework and a deliverable of New Zealand’s Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism Strategy.
He Aranga Ake is intended for a person who may pose a violent extremist or terrorist threat of harm to a community or themselves due to identifying with ideologies associated with violent extremism.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a psychologist to join a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to support the delivery, ongoing capability, and evolution of He Aranga Ake. You will mahi tahi (work collectively) with partner agencies to address risk indicators and assess, identify, and support plans and their interventions which strengthen protective factors and promote pro-social activities and in doing so mitigate against an individual radicalising towards, or engaging in extremist violence. The focus is on working collaboratively with individuals and their family/whānau, schools, agencies, and local communities to develop and implement comprehensive ecological wraparound plans.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Deliver assessments and recommendations backed by clinical reasoning and/or structured professional judgement to inform and guide practice.
- Provide ongoing, individualised, and dynamic psychological assessment and intervention options.
- Supporting quantitative and qualitative data collection
- Conduct research and provide advice and professional leadership within a MDT
- Present, and provide advice and information in a concise manner both orally and in writing.
- Be part of a continuous improvement cycle and contribute to the development and review of processes, documentation, and resources to support delivery.
- Design measurement tools that support evaluations of the efficacy, safety, and validity of approaches.

- Ability to think logically, have a key eye for detail, and proven ability to interpret and critically evaluate appropriate information to determine appropriate advice.
- The ability to contribute your specialist skills within multi-agency, trans-disciplinary settings where the person of concern is at the centre of everything you do.
- Provide ongoing, individualised, and dynamic psychological assessment and intervention.
- Support all those around the individual to use evidence informed practice.
- Excellent communication, relationship management skills and rational decision-making.

- Must be a New Zealand Registered Psychologist under the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act and hold a current practicing certificate.
- This role is based at Police National Headquarters, Wellington. The hiring panel may consider applicants outside of the Wellington region on a case-by-case basis.

Security Clearance
In this role, you must already have or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET national security clearance. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for a national security clearance is:

- Preferably a NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last ten years, or
- A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last ten years, or
- A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last ten years (Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America), and has a background
