**About the team**

Our tight knit and devoted Environmental Consents and Compliance Team provide environmental advice and support 'on the ground' in the regions across the motu.

The team is responsible for delivering the environmental components of large scale and interesting national workstream programmes such as pole replacements, tower to pole conversions, foundation refurbishments, new and replacement transformers, upgrading and extending substations, as well as the important operational maintenance and compliance of our assets - giving the team opportunities to visit and get to know the regions through the environmental management of our mahi and enabling Transpower to maintain its social licence to operate.

**About the opportunity**

We're seeking a passionate Environmental Advisor who is enthusiastic about being part of Aotearoa's emissions reduction targets through enabling the upgrading and maintenance of the National Grid and achieving environmental excellence.

Your work will involve navigating interesting and intricate environmental matters and sites - working alongside highly skilled project teams with assistance from technical environmental professionals. You'll work closely with your Team Leader and Senior Environmental Advisor to ensure the delivery of these projects.

You'll build positive relationships with environmental consultants, and hui with iwi and other stakeholders such as landowners, councils, Department of Conservation, Fish and Game and local community groups to discuss specific and broader work in the pipeline.

Occasional travel and site visits will be required to gain a better understanding of the work environment and attend toolbox and start up meetings with project and service delivery crews when required. There's never a dull moment in the job

**About you**

Drawing on your existing planning, resource management or environmental management/science experience, you're keen to join a team who are meeting the government's renewable energy targets first hand You're confident to influence outcomes and respectfully push back when required.
- A good understanding of relevant legislation, particularly the Resource Management Act 1991, Heritage NZ Pouhere Taonga Act 2014 and other relevant environmental legislation (resource management experience in the electricity or other relevant infrastructure industry will be a distinct advantage)
- Strong influencing skills to engage comfortably with individuals and groups e.g. councils, iwi/hapu, etc to gain perspective and drive cohesion
- Understanding of developing and implementing strategy and policy
- Commitment to achieving the highest standards of professional planning, resource management and environmental excellence

**Desirable, but not essential**:

- Experience in the statutory planning process including resource consents, Notices of Requirements, Outline Plans and Plan Changes
- Graduate or Full Membership of the NZPI or eligibility to become a full member of NZPI
