At Transpower, we're committed to environmental sustainability and enabling the reduction of New Zealand's overall energy emissions as we transition to a net zero carbon economy.

Our tight knit and dedicated Environmental Consents and Compliance Team provide environmental advice and support 'on the ground' in the regions across the motu. From national programmes of base capex projects to operational maintenance, the team ensures Transpower's activities align with environmental regulations, maintaining our social license to operate.

**About the opportunity - newly created role**

We're seeking a Senior Environmental Advisor to help shape and develop our business processes, systems and tools, manage complex base capex project work and help to mentor other team members.

With a focus on process excellence, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring that Transpower's maintenance and upgrade works on the National Grid are appropriately scoped, authorised and communicated under all relevant environmental legislation. As the second-in-charge to the Environmental Consents and Compliance Team Leader, you'll bring a best practice approach to how we deliver national work programmes.

Occasional travel and site visits will be required to gain a better understanding of the work environment, build stakeholder engagement and attend workshops with relevant people across Transpower and our panel of environmental consultants for business process mapping and performance.

**About you**

Drawing on your experience as an environmental expert at a senior level in the field of planning, resource management or environmental management/science, you're keen to join a team who are meeting the government's renewable energy targets first hand.

You love sharing your knowledge with others, and have a gift for inspiring and guiding less experienced team members to meet their full potential.

Innovative and process driven, you enjoy finding opportunities for improvement and developing streamlined processes that enhance and maintain environmental compliance - especially with the teams more challenging projects

**What will you bring?**
- Considerable experience (8+ years) in environmental, planning or resource management advisory roles, with a strong understanding of the Resource Management Act and other regulatory frameworks - resource management experience in the electricity or other relevant infrastructure industry will be rated highly
- Experience in delivering system and process improvements
- Leadership and/or mentorship experience or training
- Strong influencing skills to engage comfortably with individuals and groups e.g. councils, iwi/hapu, etc to gain perspective and drive cohesion
- Commitment to achieving the highest standards of professional planning, resource management and environmental excellence

**Desirable, but not essential**:

- Full Membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute or eligibility to become a full member, or membership of other relevant professional affiliations
