Great Journeys New Zealand (GJNZ) operate some of New Zealand’s most iconic Tourism experiences and Interregional commuter trains - The TranzAlpine, Coastal Pacific, Northern Explorer, Capital Connections and Te Huia services. Over recent years we have been embarking on transformational change regarding how we offer unique experiences to domestic and international visitors. Originating from scenic train travel, we now offer Scenic Day Trips, Short Breaks & fully guided multi-day tours.
Embark on a journey with us as a part of our tour guide team for the upcoming 2024-2025 summer season tours Starting asap and concluding in mid-May 2025, this is your chance to be a vital presence on our exciting voyage. Our guests' comfort is our priority, and you'll play a key role in ensuring their stay is exceptional by arranging accommodations in exceptional 3.5 to 5-star hotels.
As a tour guide, you'll take on the responsibility of guiding guests through a diverse array of activities tailored to their interests, allowing them to fully experience the beauty of each location. As an integral member of the team, you'll also have the opportunity to experience the thrill of travel first-hand, whether it's through picturesque train routes, comfortable coach rides, or captivating ferry crossings.
This remarkable adventure takes us between the vibrant cities of Auckland and Queenstown, revealing the breath-taking landscapes of New Zealand. **What you’ll do**
- Provide professional customer accompaniment throughout our rail tours
- Assist the tour operations team with office-based reporting, booking system management, and administrative tasks
- Provide guests with a very high level of cultural and historical information on destinations visited & regions we pass through, including any practical information that may be required
- Facilitate communication with excursion, accommodation suppliers, and operations during the tour, ensuring personalized customer needs are fulfilled
- Participate in scheduled road shows and tourism events as a company representative Complete required tour reports accurately and timely
**What you’ll need**
- 2+ Years proven Tour Guide experience
- Exceptional People skills and excellent written and verbal English
- Knowledge and experience of New Zealand’s key tourism destinations and visitor activities
- Sound IT knowledge and proficiency
- Attention to detail, highly organized & flexible
- NZCE or Tertiary Qualification in related discipline to the role or demonstrated relevant experience
- Sound practical and theoretical knowledge in area of specialisation
- Knowledge of Te Reo and understanding of the strong connection to Whenua and Tangata whenua - land and people is desirable
