You will be part of a wider multi-functional team that spans our national freshwater team, national policy staff, RMA planners, legal as well as our operations group. This wider team is based across our Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Te Anau, Invercargill, Rakiura, Queenstown, Wānaka, and Alexandra offices.
The Central Otago focus is on a broad range of biodiversity and recreational programmes. These include managing threatened bird and plant species, increasing habitat through pest control work, maintaining recreational and historic infrastructure, and working with Iwi, business, and community groups.

He angitūtanga | About the role
The purpose of the role is to lead the delivery of the district's resource management, statutory land administration and crown pastoral land advocacy work. As part of this you will be responsible for:

- Providing high quality input in relation to statutory land administration, crown pastoral land and resource management including freshwater advocacy.
- Supporting existing key relationships and investigate new opportunities to grow conservation within the Central Otago District.
- Supporting joint venture projects with businesses, community groups, and iwi
- Promoting the value of conservation by lifting awareness and educating others.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
On top of your experience and technical skills in resource management, you will bring a positive attitude and ability to foster relationships with those both within Te Papa Atawhai and externally. A natural multi-tasker with the ability to work independently you will be able to support the Central Otago team and the wider Southern South Island regional team by providing mentoring to the Rangers and advice to the Operations Manager when required.

**The ideal skills requirements are**:

- Demonstrated knowledge of RMA processes and freshwater advocacy.
- Knowledge of New Zealand's natural ecosystems with ecology experience would be and advantage
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; including a proven ability to write clear and concise plain English reports; providing context, critical analysis and logical conclusions and recommendations for decision-makers
- Demonstrates experience in leading strategic thinking and planning initiatives.
- Demonstrated competence in holding key stakeholder relationships and working with a range of private and public entities and community groups
- Proven organisation skills, able to balance competing demands, meet deadlines and have problem solving skills
- A track record for working well both independently and as part of a team
- Drivers Licence and reasonable level of fitness as conducting site visits will be part of the role.
