Christchurch, New Zealand Christchurch City Council Full time

At the Christchurch City Council our work is the city that surrounds us. When you join our team, the results and success of your work are evident in every facet of city life. We work together every day to shape a community and create a city that we can be truly proud of.

**About us**:
The Parks Unit within the Christchurch City Council has an exciting future ahead as it relays the foundations of a world-class environment for future generations, much as the founding residents of this City did to create the remarkable parks network we enjoy today.

We are out there in the community every day. We're always after people with loads of energy who are keen to be out in the public and are eager and enthusiastic about responding to the needs of our community.

**About the role**:
This brand new role will allow you to showcase your leadership capability, motivate and develop your team to deliver consistently excellent service. The ability to build and maintain relationships not only with your peers within the Parks unit, but across diverse groups including Community Boards and Councillors will come naturally to you.

You will supervise the Urban Field Ranger Team in either our North or South Sectors of the city, who carry out all manner of maintenance work relating to the upkeep of city parks and assets, responding to requests for service in these areas. No two days will be the same, with a busy schedule and workload that varies from job to job. You will also be a 'doer' who likes to lead by example to muck in and get the job done

**About you**:
You will be a people person, able to relate at all levels of the community and within your team. You have an optimistic outlook, with the flexibility to be involved in activities across the Unit to address demand in department or area workloads.

You will have a relevant trade qualification (Level 4 Landscape Construction desirable), or practical working experience in a similar role, supported by a minimum of five years' experience in a similar environment, including at least two years in a leadership role. You will also ideally hold a relevant building industry qualification. You will have a focus on accuracy, as you will be required to complete daily recording of tasks, completion of maintenance requests and hazard identification/risk assessment documentation.

**What you'll get in return**:
Get the satisfaction of helping respond to the needs of your community, with the independence to really make this role your own. The Council also offers many great staff benefits including access to our recreation and sport facilities amongst much more. You'll join a team dedicated to helping Christchurch maintain the iconic Garden City image that makes it such a great place to live, work and visit. Our team are out there every day, making things happen.

**Sounds like a no brainer to us. Get in touch, and tell us all about why you're the person we are looking for**

Feel like you don't meet every single requirement of the job description?

**Additional information**:

- Hours of work_ - 37.5 - 40 hours per week
- Location_ - This position is primarily based at Pages Road Maintenance Depot_

**_ Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and interviews may take place prior to the close date. This means we reserve the right to close a job ad before the advertised close date._
