**Mō te tūnga | About the role**

We are looking for an experienced mental health support worker who is experienced or working towards and or has a level 4 mental health support qualification with a recovery-focused approach to care.

What is unique to this role, is the Tino Rangatiranga vision that empowers tangata whaiora wellbeing, and tangata whaiora to live with their mental illness.

This role supports both male and female Tangata whaiora whose lives are empowered with mental illness.

Communication is a vital part of this role, observation, reporting, and documentation are a must.

We value working with respect, integrity and purpose while weaving our values of Whanaungatanga, Manaaki, Whakamana, and Ako throughout our service.

It is important you can work to a rotating roster including weekends. The shifts are 7:00am - 3:30pm, 2:30pm - 11:00pm.

**Ko wai koe | About You**

This role is unique, and you will be a crucial part in the care recovery of Tangata Whaiora. You will need to get on with different kinds of people, Tangata whaiora live relatively active lifestyles so keeping up with them is very important because of this you will need to:

- Be a team player
- Motivator
- Inspirator
- Can do person
- Relate, understand and have knowledge of mental illness
- Clear English communication
- Activities-orientated person
- such as taking whaiora on outings, playing board games, playing music and singing with Tangata whaiora
- Qualification in health and wellbeing or community support worker, mental health, however not mandatory
- Be confident, practical and have good listening skills to be able to address the needs of our Tangata whaiora
- Have a solution-focused approach to issues and an empathetic approach to interactions with others.

**A typical day in the lives of Tangata Whaiora living in residential services.**

Tangata Whaiora asks that the support worker have the following:

- Help with cooking,
- House duties
- Educating how to catch buses.
- How to read bus maps
- Assist in arranging and attending clinical appointments.
- Playing board games
- Singing, playing the guitar or musical instrument
- Art
- Budgeting their weekly income to include
- Grocery shopping
- Social outings
- Completing study and full-driver's license
