At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whānau.

We shape the policies, settings, and performance of the education system for early learning, schooling, and tertiary.

**Mātau rōpū ake | About our group and team**

Te Pou Tuarongo is focused on lifting ao Māori capability across our organisation to take practical action to give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We navigate te ao Karauna and te ao Māori so our organisation can create space for Māori to exercise tino rangatiratanga and support our kāwanatanga responsibility.

We support the development of relationships between Te Tāhuhu and Māori. In particular, we support the Directors of Education who hold the local relationships with iwi and hapū. We ensure relevant parts of our organisation are connected so we can deliver on our agreements with iwi and hapū. We also support Ministers, the Secretary for Education, and senior leaders to respond to Te Tiriti o Waitangi | The Treaty of Waitangi related matters.

The Office of the Hautū, Te Pou Tuarongo provides business support and strategic leadership to the Hautū, Te Pou Tuarongo. The Office of the Hautū also supports the Māori Medium and Kaupapa Māori Education Programme Office, Relationships & Mātauranga Māori Team, System Performance Team, and Ao Māori Capability Team to lead a cohesive response to Te Tāhuhu priorities.

Te Pou Tuarongo provide our organisation with clear visibility of Ka Hikitia - Ka Hāpaitia (the Education Strategy) and Tau Mai Te Reo (the Māori Language in Education Strategy) that drive excellent and equitable outcomes for ākonga Māori and their whānau.

Te Pou Tuarongo also has a working relationship with the Minister responsible for Māori Education.

About this role

As Senior Advisor - Māori Communications, you will work closely with the Principal Advisor Communications to provide informed advice, and contribute through influence, advocacy, vision, and drive to support the capability of Te Pou Tuarongo.

You will advise on and deliver well-targeted communications and media services that drive excellent and equitable outcomes for ākonga Māori and their whānau.

About you

You will be confident with te ao Māori and have a good understanding of te reo Māori, tikanga and mātauranga Māori.

You will be confident and capable in using Māori bodies of knowledge and experience in the sector to inform your advice.

You will have well developed stakeholder networks in government and Māori or Pacific communication channels.

You will consistently hold space for innovative thought, guiding people through a process of making sustained collaborative change.

You will also offer:

- Expertise or enthusiasm to up skill in managing and creating digital content, including the use of the Ministry's content management system (Silverstripe) and knowledge of Government Web Standards and accessibility.
- The perceptiveness and demonstrated capacity to think strategically, foresee risks and opportunities and design alternative strategies to deal with change.
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi | The Treaty of Waitangi, it's implications for the work of Te Tāhuhu and ability to influence change with and through others in this space.
