**_The role/Te mahi_**

As the Māori Liaison Officer, you will work with a highly professional, successful team of Liaison Officers to increase the number of Māori secondary students enrolling at the University of Otago.

You will be a leader, a facilitator and instrumental in encouraging and helping greater numbers of Māori secondary school students to enrol.

You will be responsible for making presentations at secondary schools, mainly across the North Island, delivering information about enrolling, living and learning at the University of Otago.

Working alongside prospective students you will assist them with course planning, decision-making and other aspects of university transition. This role includes managing a number of outreach programmes, some carried out on campus, where you will help students to experience the unique Dunedin tertiary environment.

Working with schools, community groups and school careers advisers, you will provide them with knowledge of the opportunities for Māori at the University of Otago.

In this role you will serve on the undergraduate Māori entrance scholarship panel as a selector.

Collaboration with relevant university staff on initiatives to increase the number of Māori students enrolling at the University of Otago is an important part of the role, as is providing feedback, strategic information and advice to the University on the effectiveness of these initiatives.

- Have extensive knowledge and understanding of Te Reo Māori me ngā tikanga Māori.
- Be a university graduate.
- Be able to advise, work with and relate to teenagers and young adults.
- Have the ability to be accepted widely in kura Māori, kura kaupapa Māori, on marae and in other relevant community contexts.
- Have fluency to present in Te Reo Māori within Kura Kaupapa Māori.
- Enjoy making effective, professional presentations to groups of school students and others.
- Have highly developed project management skills.
- Ideally have an excellent knowledge of the University of Otago and its courses, or the ability to quickly learn.
- Ideally have a sound working knowledge of the current New Zealand secondary school curriculum and assessment matters, especially pertaining to Year 11-13 students.
