Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement Officer

**About the role**

You will be tasked with monitoring resource consents, primarily forestry but also roading, earthworks and river crossings/bridges, and working alongside stakeholders, both internal and external, to promote responsible resource use and regulatory compliance. Where required, the CME officer will undertake appropriate action to ensure that consent conditions are complied with and complaints resolved.

Reporting to the Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement Team Leader your role will be field, and office based, working in the greater team of 16 people.

You’ll recognise the importance of the role as a Treaty partner and understand how that underpins Gisborne District Council’s work.

**Duties Include**:

- Site visits
- Monitoring consent compliance and issuing compliance reports
- Updating compliance database information
- Contributing to internal working groups on specific issues related to role
- Issuing enforcement actions and monitoring those
- Assisting with investigations and elevated enforcement actions.

**Skills & experience**
- Regulatory Experience, preferably in the Resource Management Act
- Knowledge of forestry industry practices
- Effective communication skills both written and oral with demonstrated ability to transfer legislative requirements to layman understanding
- Experience with Dispute and Conflict Mediation
- Confident in driving a 4WD vehicle, and on gravel roads. Full drivers licence (NZ0 required
- Confident user of in-vehicle and hand held radios.
- High awareness of health & safety hazards
- Experience in drone flying
- Experience in reading and interpreting maps (both topo and GIS)

Anyone from resource management background, forestry engineering or civil engineering with practical forestry experience will suit this role.
