Drinking Water Technician

About the role


Reporting to the Drinking Water Manager your role will be field, and office based, working in the greater team of eight people.


The Drinking Water Technician will provide data management, monitoring, audit and reporting to the Drinking Water Manager to assist with the delivery of safe drinking water supplies, management of Councils water supply assets, delivery of customer services and demand management programmes.


You'll recognise the importance of the role as a Treaty partner and understand how that underpins Gisborne District Council's work.


Duties Include:

  • The coordination and analysis of data from contracted services, water treatment plant facilities and network activities
  • Liaison and communication with stakeholders to demonstrate council's compliance as a water supplier
  • Issuing work orders to maintenance contractors as required
  • Utilisation of councils Asset Management System (IPS) to search records and asset work history
  • Collaborating with the internal and external stakeholders to assist in monitoring asset performance and condition to ensure efficient and economic delivery of water services
  • Carrying out inspections, investigations and monitoring
  • Monitoring and collating data, records and documents

Skills & experience

  • Tertiary qualification (Bachelors or equivalent) in engineering, resource management, science or a related discipline
  • Work experience involving analytical data tasks
  • Advanced computer skills, including Excel and document management
  • Interpersonal skills and customer relations
  • Sound interpretive and analytical problem solving skills
Anyone from a local government or contracted water services background will suit this role.
