We're looking for a **Chief News Director** - a rare opportunity to be second in command of **Stuff's Auckland newsroom**.

Can you drive a news team to produce outstanding content? Do you have the right connections around town? Are you someone who just has to know everything that's happening in Auckland?

Your primary responsibility will be to attract audiences of value and build public trust in our business. You'll be busy - commissioning and publishing high-quality journalism, running a team of news directors and getting the best out of our team of reporters and visual journalists. It's no 9-5 job, but it's fun and rewarding.

**Your duties will include**:

- Commission high-quality local journalism and content for stuff.co.nz, Neighbourly and print publications.
- Develop a strong culture of visual storytelling, particularly video, within the newsroom. print publications.
- Ensure all staff are committed to audience-first publishing and have the skills to distribute local content for maximum impact across all platforms including social.
- Ensure stories have context and analysis, clarity, impact and flair.
- Support the growth of Stuff's membership base through editorial initiatives that encourage sign ups and display support for other business units' initiatives.

**To be successful in the role, you will need to meet the following requirements**:

- The ability to innovate and generate fresh ideas
- The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across editorial and other departments and contribute as part of a team
- The ability to work unsupervised and independently when required
- Strong journalistic skills including the ability to write and self-edit
- The ability to capture, commission and select appropriate visuals
