The Ministry for Ethnic Communities is the Government's chief advisor on ethnic communities, ethnic diversity and the inclusion of ethnic communities in wider society.

The Director is a newly established senior management and leadership position within the Policy and Analytics Business Unit of the Ministry for Ethnic Communities.

**As Director**:

- you will form part of a high-performing and supportive leadership team and report to the Deputy Chief Executive - Policy and Analytics.
- you will be accountable for a new function, building a multi-disciplinary team, managing a multi-year budget and developing a work programme aimed at better understanding and building social cohesion and community resilience on matters of national security.
- your team will shape and implement an ambitious work programme working closely with central government agencies and diverse communities.
- You will need to be able to get and maintain a Top Secret Security Classification.

Operating as a public sector systems leader, the Director will partner with leaders across the Ministry, government and communities to influence systems change to improve outcomes for ethnic communities

**We will be looking to you to**:

- Develop, implement and manage a strategic work programme, ensuring that initiatives are effective phased, integrated and executed to a high quality, on time and budget.
- Provide strategic leadership, vision and direction to develop and implement a prioritised and sequenced work programme aligned Ministry's strategic priorities.
- Ensure regular, effective and robust engagement with public sector agencies and diverse communities. Proactively look for opportunities to drive or collaborate with senior leaders on initiatives that have potential to deliver positive outcomes for ethnic communities.
- Deliver on the business unit and team goals, measuring and evaluating work programme performance, and identifying issues/risks and implementing mitigation strategies or escalating when appropriate.

**Ideally you will have**:

- Prior extensive experience in the New Zealand public sector or similar overseas context, including experience in managing policy teams for 3+ years.
- Demonstrated experience working constructively at the interface between community and government.
- Detailed experience advising and forming constructive working relationships with Ministers and central government agencies.
- Ability to lead, develop and inspiring people-fostering a high level of functional expertise within the Policy team.
- Experience in managing a work programme with a multi-year budget.
- An in-depth knowledge of the machinery of government, government direction and policy priorities.
