GCSB are currently looking to hire two Technical Analysts as listed below:
Technical Analyst - Machine Learning
We're looking for passionate practitioners to be part of a multidisciplinary team that uses modern data science/AI/ML techniques to drive the intelligence mission. Timely, insightful intelligence is essential to protecting New Zealand's sovereignty, prosperity and safety. You'll be working with problems and technologies you can't find anywhere else, alongside a committed and talented group of colleagues.
**You should**:
- Have a strong interest in data science/AI/ML
- Be comfortable finding solutions to uncertain problems
- Be familiar with developing practical prototypes and, where successful, production solutions from research literature
- Have a degree with a strong focus in AI, ML, or a relevant field
- Be proficient with software development, including Agile/Scrum, test driven development, use of version control, etc., and
- Be familiar with databases (e.g. SQL, ElasticSearch, etc.) and data engineering technologies (e.g., Apache NiFi, Apache Kafka, etc.).
**Typical work might include**:
- Creating solutions to explore, triage, and translate unique datasets through unsupervised learning, supervised learning, and neural machine translation
- Surveying the literature to find novel solutions to intelligence problems, and assessing their practical use
- Maintaining professional relationships with colleagues in domestic and international partner agencies
- Presenting your work at international conferences, and
- Working and developing with modern data-engineering infrastructure to process large quantities of data, and making it available to analysts and algorithms.
Technical Analyst - Software Engineering
We're looking for passionate practitioners to be part of a multidisciplinary team to develop and integrate software solutions with a focus on processing, enriching and making data available to support the intelligence mission. Timely, insightful intelligence is essential to protecting New Zealand's sovereignty, prosperity and safety. You'll be working with problems and technologies you can't get exposure to anywhere else, alongside a committed and talented group of colleagues.
**You should**:
- Have a strong interest in software engineering, with a particular focus on backend data processing systems
- Be comfortable finding solutions to uncertain problems
- Be involved at all stages of development, from creative proposals through to deploying productionised systems
- Have a degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or other relevant field
- Be proficient with software development, including Agile/Scrum, test driven development, use of version control, etc.
- Be familiar with DevOps principles and techniques, including CI/CD, and
- Be familiar with databases (e.g. SQL, ElasticSearch, etc.) and data engineering technologies (e.g. Apache NiFi, Apache Kafka, etc.).
**Typical work might include**:
- Working with modern data-engineering infrastructure to process large quantities of data and making it available to analysts and algorithms
- Contributing to the maturation of our MLOps practices to ensure ML model deployments are robust
- Evaluating open-source software to solve an intelligence problem
- Evolving and operating Intelligence Directorate infrastructure
- Contributing to the architecture and design of Intelligence Directorate systems
- Presenting your work at international conferences, and
- Maintaining professional relationships with colleagues in domestic and international partner agencies.
While there is some opportunity to work remotely, and we do offer flexible work hours, security considerations typically require the majority of the work week to be spent physically at one of our offices.
