Based in the Viaduct Auckland, Auckland Transport is one of Auckland's most influential organisation's, and over the next ten years will deliver the largest ever investment in infrastructure. The agency delivers a wide variety of programmes across Auckland, alongside the provision of the public transport network.
We are looking for an experienced employment lawyer to be a key person instrumental in leading our employment relations during this time.
**The role**
We're looking for a self-starter to hit the ground running in a supportive and people led environment - we're working at pace so you'll thrive on execution, collaboration and delivering initiatives that make a real business difference and improve the experience for everyone. You'll be leading some key initiatives in our People and Performance team and you will be comfortable in a changing environment utilising some key experience in the ER space.
- Have a tertiary qualification in law, with specialisation in employment law being preferred;
- Have a current NZ legal practising certificate or eligibility to hold one;
- Have 5 - 8 years' experience in an in house employment relations legal role (preferable a large, diverse organisation with union representation) and/or specialising in employment law at a law firm.

- Building leadership capability through coaching conversations
- Provision of expert employment relations advice and to people leaders empowering confidence and competence in workplace relations matters.
- Interpretation and coaching of relevant contractual provisions, employment policy, ways of working and legislation to effectively shape employment relations strategy, decision making and action, with a focus on compliance and risk.
- Negotiations with union's including renewals of the Collective Employment Agreement.
- Governance of any personal grievances lodged and management of any supporting external support engaged to ensure efficient and effective resolution of cases.
- Management and development of an ER Advisor.
**You will bring an**:
- Ability to develop and maintain trusted, credible relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to understand the wider public and private ER environment and leverage strengths and opportunities of both to improve our people's work experience and AT's delivery of organisational goals.
- Ability to effectively lead through complexity and ambiguity to achieve great people and business outcomes across AT and our council environment.
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills to create a high performing organisation and transparent, fair and effective problem solving environment.
- Sound analytical and decision-making skills to understand drivers of discourse and pathways of resolution including restorative practise.
- Subject expertise across employment relations and legislation with sound union experience.
- Influencing in complex and diverse environments.
