We are excited to offer a new residential ambulance officer training, designed to have you working as an Emergency Medical Assistant on an ambulance in some of our rural and remote areas of New Zealand.
An Emergency Medical Assistant (EMA) is a clinically qualified ambulance officer who assists with the assessment and treatment of patients, while utilising their own skills to provide optimal patient care.
As part of this education programme, we will train you to be a full-time, frontline ambulance officer alongside an Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic. Once fully trained, you will be assisting with the delivery of patient care, driving in emergency and non-emergency conditions, ensuring operational readiness and helping to meet the urgent and emergency health needs of the people of Aotearoa.
The training programme is expected to start on 29 April 2024. The 3 classroom weeks are expected to run in Hamilton.
Employment on completion of the programme will be in rural and remote areas only. Potential locations include:

**What do I need to join this programme?**
- Full NZ driving licence and either have held it for at least one year OR have a full licence and have completed an NZTA approved advanced driving course.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Good physical fitness and the ability to manage your health and wellbeing in a shift work environment
- Be committed to on-going professional and personal development

Previous experience in healthcare/social care environment is highly desirable, though not required, as full training will be provided. A passion for the work is the primary requirement. This role could be your first step on a clinical career pathway which could take you on to further opportunities within Paramedicine.
