**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**:
An exciting opportunity presents for a Programme Director reporting to the General Manager of Energy and Resource Markets leading a project that is nationally significant and intergenerational.

A key focus of the role is attracting the right capabilities to deliver the project, maintaining momentum, and ensuring strong stakeholder engagement. You will also ideally understand the industry and commercial context of the project and understand the requirements of developing a large infrastructure project.

You will ensure iwi / Māori input into the project at all levels, integrate mātauranga Māori into the project, and identify opportunities for shared benefits.

As the Programme Director you will have operational accountability including reporting to the SRO and Project Steering Group. You will be supported by a project management and corporate support team that will grow as the project size and complexity increases and will take the lead responsibility for ensuring the project is well planned, sequenced, resourced, and managed to deliver on the project’s deliverables.

**Skills and Experience Required**
- Comprehensive understanding of the Public Sector environment and a demonstrated understanding of policy and regulatory processes, including Government decision-making and operating procedures, and the experience to bring both policy and operational perspectives to bear on the programme
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to quickly earn the trust and confidence of senior government officials, ministers and industry stakeholders
- Understanding of the multiple private and government perspectives interests in the energy transition, recognising the need to balance the energy trilemma of sustainability, affordability and security of supply
- Understanding what the government wants to achieve and the ability to anticipate minister and Ministry needs.
- Intuition for the most significant challenges facing the energy transition and NZ Battery Project and an ability to simplify complex problems and concepts and translate high-level policy objectives and vision statements into actionable advice and outcomes
- Experience in the implementation of complex and tangible Government projects
- Strong programme and project management skills and knowledge of project management disciplines and proven delivery in a public policy/regulatory environment
- Senior-level experience successfully managing a large programme of activity, including working effectively across agencies/organisations
- Proven people-management skills
- Flexibility to adapt within a fast-moving environment
- Ability to assimilate new information or areas of work
