**About you**

You are a polished professional and passionately curious leader. Highly collaborative, believing we are better together, you also bring:

- Demonstrated experience as a people leader, and a genuine desire to lead and inspire a team of people to be successful
- Exceptional communication skills, building rapport and fostering relationships with people from all walks of life, and levels of seniority
- Business ownership, or demonstrated experience supporting SME to grow
- An analytical, results and solutions focus
- Project management skills - able to manage change and multiple projects across the team
- General understanding of R&D and business development
- Comfort managing budgets and reporting on team KPIs
- An understanding of the mechanics of Local Government and funding (is ideal)
- A current and clean full drivers licence - comfortable driving around the wider Wellington region, including to the Wairarapa and Kapiti Coast. As not all meetings can take place online.

**About the role**

Reporting to the General Manager Business & Innovation, you will provide direction to our business growth, business transitions, and innovation and research specialists; lead a high performing awesome team; develop strategy; and ensure our commercial agreements are met and optimised.

The Business Growth Team is responsible for growing and strengthening the business sector in the Wellington region. As the Business Growth Team Lead you will manage relationships with MBIE, service providers, optimising capability development and research and development (R&D) funding opportunities, inspiring business owners and delivering operational excellence.

The team work across a range of key target sectors through the Regional Business Partner Network (RBPN), Callaghan Innovation and other support services.

Some of the key responsibilities are:

- Leading, mentoring, empowering and training the Business Growth Team
- Supporting our people to align with our Regional Economic Development Plan, City in Transition, work with new business while fostering long term relationships with our key stakeholders and repeat clients
- Reporting to the funders of the programmes we administer
- Presenting at events and to key stakeholders - across the wider Wellington region
- Enabling continuous improvement, providing a great client experience while delivering results
- Collaborating with the other Divisions within WellingtonNZ
- Assessing and qualifying new business enquiries
- Connecting businesses to mentors, courses, events and service providers
- Fostering relationships with service providers
- Actively contributing to the Business & Innovation Division mission and participating in the leadership team.

Remuneration for this role will be based on the skill set and competencies that the successful applicant brings to the role.
