**He angitūtanga: The opportunity**

Auckland Council’s Specialist Unit is a multi-disciplinary team within the council’s Planning and Resource Consents Department. The unit provides specialist environmental advice to support the council’s regulatory functions, primarily relating to the Resource Management Act and Auckland Unitary Plan. A primary function of the Specialist Unit is to provide expert advice and assessment to the resource consent process and to Licensing and Regulatory Compliance. The unit provides specialist advice including the review of technical reports, provision of peer reviews and recommending consent conditions as well as delivering technical training to teams across the council.

As an Intern in the Specialist Unit, you will be helping the team deliver high-quality specialist advice to consenting and compliance functions ensuring positive outcomes for the customer and the environment.

Embark on a journey of professional growth and hands-on experience with the Auckland Council Internship Programme. Designed for students in their penultimate year of a bachelor's degree, or in a continued masters programme, this paid three-month summer internship, running from 18th November 2024 to 14 February 2025, offers full-time work that aligns with your field of study.

You'll engage in meaningful work, contributing to the development of Auckland as a world-class city, while receiving career development opportunities.

As an intern, you'll be immersed in a supportive environment, with mentorship and networking opportunities that pave the way for a potential future within the council. You’ll be part of Auckland Council’s internship whānau and will be supported every step of the way by a team who want you to succeed including a buddy, liaison, Careers Team, and the wider intern cohort.

Upon completion, interns may receive priority consideration for the Graduate Programme, setting the stage for a robust career start.

**He kōrero mōu: About you**

You are a motivated and organised individual eager to develop your skills in report writing and project management. With a strong foundation in analytical thinking and critical problem-solving, you are ready to tackle new challenges. You enjoy collaborating with others and communicating effectively, making you a valuable team player.
- Be in your penultimate year studying towards a relevant Bachelor's degree, or continuing into a Master’s level of study in 2025.
- Be eligible to work in New Zealand full-time from November 2024- February 2025
- Have a NZ restricted driver's license
- Environmental Science related degrees
