**He angitūtanga: The opportunity**
The Environmental Monitoring unit monitors environmental compliance with approved resource consents and certain permitted activities. Our role is to ensure activities comply with the relevant standards and regulations under the granted resource consents, the Resource Management Act and the relevant National Environmental Standards (NES).
As an Environmental Monitoring Intern, you will be monitoring targeted resource consents throughout the Auckland Region to help protect and enhance our built and natural environment. The role is predominantly office based but some site visit travel will be required.
You will be provided 2-weeks of training and work closely with our Environmental Monitoring Officers and Seniors to ensure you are well supported.

Designed for students in their penultimate year of a bachelor's degree, or in a continued masters programme, this paid three-month summer internship, running from 18th November 2024 to 14 February 2025, offers full-time work that aligns with your field of study.
You'll engage in meaningful work, contributing to the development of Auckland as a world-class city, while receiving career development opportunities.
As an intern, you'll be immersed in a supportive environment, with mentorship and networking opportunities that pave the way for a potential future within the council. You’ll be part of Auckland Council’s internship whānau and will be supported every step of the way by a team who want you to succeed including a buddy, liaison, Careers Team, and the wider intern cohort.
Upon completion, interns may receive priority consideration for the Graduate Programme, setting the stage for a robust career start.
**He kōrero mōu: About you**
We are looking for highly motivated interns, passionate about the work done by the Environmental Monitoring unit. You are someone who can demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills, manage customer enquiries with a positive and effective approach, and navigate through challenging situations with poise. Your ability to communicate clearly and resolve conflicts amicably will contribute significantly to our team's success. Organisational skills are also crucial, as you will manage various tasks and deadlines
- Be in your penultimate year studying towards a relevant Bachelor's degree, or continuing into a Master’s level of study in 2025.
- Be eligible to work in New Zealand full-time from November 2024- February 2025
- Have a minimum of a New Zealand Restricted License
- Environmental or Urban Planning
- Environmental Science
