**Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity**

We are searching for two Research Technologists in Health Data Science to join our Department of Medicine School at the University of Auckland.

You will be an expert who assists academic staff, students, and stakeholders in accessing complex or specialised data aligning with their areas of expertise. You will know practical strategies and have theoretical knowledge in Health Data Science, and have proven experience in supporting health and/or research. You must be organised and be able to think on your feet as you ensure all stakeholder expectations are met and push forward on positive academic outcomes.

The two positions focus on different aspects of Health Data Science and the specifics of the day-to-day work will differ.

Position 1 - Full time, 37.5 hours per week on a 12-month fixed-term contract.
- Ensure the provenance and meaning of all fields in the health data collections received by the service are understood
- Accurately assess, clean and link large health datasets.
- Investigate anomalies in linked and/or curated data, with documentation of the issue and solution for quality control.
- Support the development of new derived variables, in collaboration with investigators and governance groups as required.
- Provide input to the design and analysis of research using big health data.
- Provide advice in the safe and accurate use of routinely collected health data.
- Ensure integration of updated data with existing data.

Position 2 - Part-time, 18.75 hours per week on a 6-month fixed-term contract.
- Complete and maintain a stocktake of cardiovascular research involving human participants in Aotearoa New Zealand
- Analyse and report data associated with Pūtahi Manawa | Healthy Hearts for Aotearoa New Zealand CoRE

Both roles require:

- An understanding of, and respect for, Te Tiriti in relation to health data science.
- An understanding of equity in relation to health data science.
- Participation in the operational planning and management of the assigned specialist facility or grouping.
- The effective provision of ongoing technical support and training to users of the specialist facility or grouping
- The development and maintenance of technical manuals and upholding standard operating procedures as appropriate.

The salary range for these roles is $66,600 - $82,200 prorated per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

**Mō tō mātou rōpū | About the team**

Position 1 - Is part of a new Health Data Collections initiative at the University that is starting with a small team of a health data scientist, administrative support, and two co-directors who are senior academics in the Schools of Medicine and Population Health.

Position 2 - Will work with Pūtahi Manawa | Healthy Hearts for Aotearoa New Zealand (HHANZ), a Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE) hosted by the University of Auckland. We are a national collaborative network of researchers, community members, and educators passionate about achieving equity in heart health outcomes.

**He kōrero mōu | About you**
- Have 1 to 2 years of demonstrated experience in working with health data.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate data science in non-technical language.
- Have excellent attention to detail.
- Be innovative, conscientious, self-motivated, and responsive to unpredictable and urgent demands.
- Can perform data manipulation and analyses using a software package. For position 1, data manipulation will be complex and extensive. For position 2, data manipulation will be of low to average complexity and may not require specialised software.
