**Our Opportunity**:
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Specialist Commercial Engineer to join our Engineering and Asset Management team within our Generation business. You will play a crucial role in analysing and optimising our existing asset portfolio, combining your technical expertise with commercial acumen to identify opportunities for improvement and drive strategic decisions. You'll provide a link between the team, Generation Operations (hydro and geothermal), Geothermal Reservoir and the Wholesale Trading team through the provision of strategic analysis, lifecycle planning and high-quality modelling and analytics in support of major projects and future investment strategies.

In this newly created role you'll bring fresh eyes to look at our system as a whole and work with really interesting modelling programme to analyse our performance while being close to the investment decisions we take and look for where opportunities can lead to.

While preference is for this role to be based in Auckland, there is flexibility for this role to be based in Rotorua or Auckland with travel required. We offer a great work/life balance which includes flexible working hours and the ability to work from home approximately twice per week.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Provide link between teams through the provision of strategic analysis, lifecycle planning and high-quality data modelling and analytics
- Support major projects and future investment strategies
- Economic analysis of all improvement opportunities on case-by-case basis, including generation enhancement, plant refurbishments and replacements
- Identifying and evaluating opportunities for improving the overall performance of Mercury assets through commercial viable initiatives
- Assisting to educate, coach and mentor stakeholders on best practice and continue to rep0resent and build commercial acumen within Mercury

**We are looking for**:

- Experience in a similar role, including as Asset Reinvestment Specialist, Commercial Engineer or Senior Optimisation Engineer
- Working knowledge of engineering principles and practices, together with an understanding of power generation plant
- Technical expertise in relevant engineering modelling software packages
- Competent in VBA programming or other programming disciplines
- University or equivaloent degree in quantitative mathematical discipline such as Mathematics &/or Statistics; Engineering (Reservoir, Process, Commercial or equivalent) or Commerce (Finance and Economics)
