**Programme Manager - Freshwater Improvement Fund**

This role leads the delivery of projects relating to improving the health and mauri of the city waterways. This is a fixed term position until June 2026.

**About the role**

This fixed term, part time role is aligned to projects associated with the Freshwater Improvement Fund and will run until June 2026. The Freshwater Improvement Fund provides the opportunity to support the improvement of health and mauri of our city waterways and its people through planting projects, improving fish habitats and creating new wetlands. The results of this programme will be a taonga tuku iho - a treasure to hand down for many generations.

Key characteristics in order to be successful in this role include:

- A commitment to give full effect to GDC’s role as a te Tiriti O Waitangi partner
- Desire or Experience in building awareness and understanding of Mana Whenua
- Contributing positively to opportunities to interact and develop relationships with mana Whenua
- A commitment to undertake training to build an understanding of tikanga and Te Ao Māori, to ensure their respectful practice

There are a number of projects that make up the Freshwater Improvement Fund, and it will be your job to keep them on track, navigate risk, and capitalise on opportunities along the way.

The role involves visiting our many sites to liaise with mana whenua, contractors, schools and monitor quality and progress and keep our treaty partners and other external stakeholders (e.g. community groups, local businesses, government departments) informed and engaged with our kaupapa. You’ll also spend time in our office, working on plans, budgets and reports to ensure that project execution is on time and aligned to strategy.

Reporting to the Senior Programme Manager your role will be office and field based, working in the greater team of five people.

**Duties Include**:

- Project management
- Liaising with contractors
- Progress reporting to governance group and external funders
- Financial tracking
- Treaty partner relationships
- Stakeholder relationships

**Skills & experience**
- Extensive and effective experience working with tangata whenua and communities towards improvement of water, land and ecological quality
- 3+ years programme/project manager experience
- Local government experience

Anyone from a Taiao, background or practical operational experience will suit this role.
