**Salary Steps**:

- Policy Advisor $71k - $89k
- Senior Policy Advisor $103k - $132k Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:
We are looking for Senior/Policy Advisors in a range of roles within the Science, Innovation and International branch, including the following teams:

- Innovation Policy - lead and shape a whole-of-government innovation policy agenda, developing initiatives to foster a thriving and dynamic innovation system which will have global impact from Aotearoa.
- Te Ara Paerangi - Future Pathways - is setting up a new work programme to help consider how we best position New Zealand's research system for the future. The programme will support work to develop a modern, future focused research system.

The research, science and innovation system is big, technically complex, and international - which makes the work interesting, varied, and challenging.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Policy Advisor to join the Future Research System Branch. You will work on development of policy responses to a range of key issues and opportunities for the public research system.

As a senior/policy advisor in the innovation policy team, you will work on policy initiatives and responses to a range of key issues and opportunities for sustaining and developing a future-focused, thriving, and dynamic innovation system for Aotearoa New Zealand. You will work with research and central government agencies through to private entrepreneurs and innovators to address challenges including better health and wellbeing and resilience under climate change.

Roles in the Science, Innovation and International Branch span the breadth of the policy process, from option development and sector engagement through to the legislative process and implementation. You will be challenged while given the opportunity to significantly change the research, science, and innovation landscape and make a difference for Aotearoa New Zealand.

**You will have a good tertiary qualification and ideally**:
Policy Advisor
- Be able to build requisite knowledge for different policy issues quickly drawing on information and evidence from multiple and diverse sources
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with an eye for detail
- Capability or interest in delivering for Ministers, senior public service officials, internal and external stakeholders
- skills in data analysis would be an advantage (this role may be of interest to someone with a data analysis background that is interested in gaining policy experience)

Senior Policy Advisor will also have these skills
- Experience leading policy projects within central government
- Strong stakeholder relationship building, influencing and engagement skills to gain the cooperation and commitment of others, inside and outside government
- Experience in translating policy design into implementation and operational delivery
- A collaborative approach to working with others and experience in working effectively with Ministers, public service officials, internal and external stakeholders
- Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in public policy context Ētahi kōrero mō MBIE - About MBIE:
