Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We are looking for motivated policy practitioners who have experience working on large legislative reforms and/or partnering with Māori to enable our ambitious programme to support the government's plan.
As a Senior Policy Advisor, you will provide leadership on, and analytical rigour to, complex policy problems. You will utilise the range of tools in your kete to provide practical and evidence-based advice. You will have a minimum of 4-5 years of policy or related work experience and experience mentoring staff and facilitating collaboration.
As a Policy Advisor you will have the opportunity to create, and contribute to the production of, high quality policy advice that supports government priorities and the Toitū Te Whenua LINZ outcome areas. You will also be able to contribute to a variety of policy projects and work collaboratively across central and local government on policy reforms.
These policy roles sit within the Strategy, Policy and Ministerial function that is responsible for driving our overall strategic direction and delivering on our policy work programme. Our three policy teams work collaboratively, so in addition to policy projects, you will get the opportunity to work alongside colleagues in strategy, regulatory stewardship, and research.
We have an exciting work programme that provides an opportunity to contribute to real change for Aotearoa New Zealand. Our work is delivered across four key pillars - Overseas Investment, Property Rights, Geographic and Property Information, and Māori and Crown Land. We are responsible for 15 pieces of legislation including the Public Works Act, the Crown Pastoral Land Act, the Land Transfer Act, and the Ratings Valuation Act. LINZ is also the regulator of the Overseas Investment regime.

Policy Advisor
- Cabinet, Parliamentary and legislative processes and the functions of central agencies and reporting requirements,
- A minimum of two years' experience working within a policy environment,
- Experience working on Māori-Crown policy issues desirable,
- An academic background that demonstrates that you are a critical thinker,
- Initiative, curiosity, flexibility, and openness,
- Able to communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly,
- Work collaboratively with other team members and stakeholders.

The annual salary range for the Policy Advisor role depending on experience is $82,000 - $95,000
Senior Policy Advisor
- Previous experience working on large legislative reforms and/or partnering with Māori on policy projects
- Passion for contributing to social, cultural, economic, and environmental outcomes,
- Can communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly
- Be agile and willing to work across challenges big and small
- Be willing to contribute to the development of the team's capability and culture.

The annual salary range for the Senior Policy Advisor role depending on experience is $105,000 - $123,000
