As Team Leader, Trade Remedies you will be responsible for the management and oversight of the Trade Remedies team's work investigating allegations of unfair international trade. You will draw on your leadership and decision-making skills to ensure the timely delivery of each trade remedies investigation, as well as the wider stewardship of Trade Remedies regulatory system - one of 18 regulatory systems MBIE is responsible for.
You will be responsible for the management of up to five staff and will have a strong focus on the continuous development of the team's capability. The Trade Remedies system has evolved in recent years in response to the Government's broader economic interests, and you will have the opportunity to innovate in how the team delivers its work.
You will lead the team's engagement with a range of stakeholders, including industry (both domestic and foreign), other government agencies, foreign governments and international organisations.
The role is one of two team leadership positions and supports the Manager with oversight and strategic direction of the wider Trade and Supply Chains team.
International and domestic travel may be required from time-to-time.
- About the Team
The Trade and Supply Chains team is responsible for administering New Zealand's Trade Remedies system, which ensures import competition is fair to New Zealand industry. We investigate and take action on dumping and subsidisation of imported products under domestic legislation and World Trade Organisation (WTO) agreements. We have worked on a variety of high profile investigations, including on frozen potato fries and wedges, canned and preserved peaches, and a variety of steel imports.
As well as responsibility for New Zealand's trade remedies regime, other areas of work within the wider Trade and Supply Chains team include the impact of standards and regulations on the ability of businesses to trade and operate offshore, how we can partner with foreign governments to reduce barriers to trade, and the interface between trade policy and economic policy. We work closely with other parts of MBIE, the Treasury, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and regulators across government.
**Nga pukenga me nga wheako e hiahiatia ana - Skills and Experience Required**
- You have leadership experience and are able to motivate people to do their best, with a focus on developing the capability of the team.
- You can manage ambiguity and make decisions in the absence of complete information, helping to give direction and sustain the momentum of the team's work
- You are a strong influencer with sound experience working with senior leaders (internal and external; domestic and international), Ministers, and acting as a persuasive advocate for the trade remedies system and its work.
- You are able to communicate clearly and concisely (both oral and written communication skills) and you have experience shaping messages for different audiences.
