Infrastructure Architect

We currently have a role for an Infrastructure Architect for a 2-month+ contract project to work in an NSX (VMware's Network Virtualization and Security Platform) IT environment who has a mix of technical, analytical, and soft skills. This role starts immediately and can be based in Tauranga or be done remotely in New Zealand. It has a very strong chance of being extended. This role will be focused on the design / planning phase.
**1. Technical Skills**
- **Networking Concepts**:
- Deep understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking, VLANs, VXLANs, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), firewall rules, and network segmentation.
- Familiarity with network topologies, IP addressing, subnetting, and DNS.
- **VMware NSX Platform Knowledge**:
- Proficiency in installing, configuring, and managing VMware NSX-T or NSX-V.
- Experience with NSX components like logical switches, routers, and distributed firewalls.
- Knowledge of how to deploy and manage NSX Edge services, such as load balancers and VPNs.
- **Virtualization and Cloud**:
- Strong understanding of VMware vSphere or other virtualization platforms.
- Knowledge of integrating NSX with cloud environments like AWS, Azure, or VMware Cloud Foundation.
- **Security**:
- Understanding of network security concepts, such as micro-segmentation, IDS/IPS, and security policies.
- Familiarity with creating and managing distributed firewall rules, service insertion, and network traffic monitoring.
- **Automation and Scripting**:
- Ability to automate NSX deployments and configurations using scripting languages like Python, PowerCLI, or APIs.
- Knowledge of automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, or VMware vRealize Automation (vRA).
- **Troubleshooting and Monitoring**:
- Proficiency in troubleshooting NSX-related issues and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools like vRealize Network Insight, Splunk, or third-party solutions.
**2. Analytical Skills**
- **Problem-Solving**: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues in multi-tiered virtualized environments.
- **Attention to Detail**: Ensuring configurations and security policies are precise and implemented correctly.
**3. Soft Skills**
- **Communication**: Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- **Collaboration**: Working with teams like security, DevOps, and cloud engineering to align on networking and security requirements.
- **Documentation**: Documenting processes, configurations, and changes in a clear and structured manner.
**4. Certifications (Optional but Beneficial)**
- **VMware Certified Professional (VCP) - Network Virtualization **.
- **VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) - Network Virtualization **.
- **VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX) - Network Virtualization **.
- **Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) **.
- **Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) **for security-related roles.
