An exciting opportunity to work in a central agency, in the heart of government, contributing to a high-value, meaningful, and impactful mandate of work.

This is a newly established role in the Engagement & Liaison team within the Cyclone Recovery Unit. Working in a high performing team alongside other communications and engagement specialist, the Manager, Engagement will provide leadership, support and guidance to the team whilst also looking outwards to engage with targeted communities and stakeholders to engage with and mobilise NGOs, Māori and other community organisations, to achieve recovery outcomes for the community.

The role will primarily focus on people leadership or the Regional Liaison team, and promote action and mobilise iwi, mana whenua and other community organisations, NGOs, and government agencies in support of cyclone recovery.
The Cyclone Recovery team are based in central Wellington, and encourages a flexible by default working style, meaning a positive work life balance is encouraged. We are looking to appoint in the range of $160,000 - $180,000 p/a (including Kiwisaver contributions), and according to relevant experience level.
Ko wai koe | About you
To be successful in this role you will be comfortable working in the following style:

- Collaborative approach to effective stakeholder relationships and inhouse team cohesion
- Agile approach with the ability to quickly adjust and adapt to changing or ambiguous conditions
- Self-starter with the ability to demonstrate initiative, to prioritise effectively, to take action to clear obstacles and to find solutions
- Critical thinker with the ability to think analytically and strategically about issues and express ideas clearly and conceptually
- Substantial experience in a senior level Engagement and Communications role
- Proven experience in a leading stakeholder management or engagement role in a complex organisation.
- People leadership skills, and ability to encourage and support a team with diverse cultural background to thrive in a complex, change oriented environment.
- A thorough and up to date understanding of engagement and stakeholder management best practice.
- Experience in working with Iwi, hapū, whānau, Māori organisations and Māori communities. Strong understanding of Te Ao Māori. A degree of fluency in te reo Māori would be ideal.
- Experience developing and implementing engagement strategies and plans.

Our Purpose - Ā Mātou Kaupapa
The Cyclone Recovery Unit (CRU) is hosted by the Department of the Prime Minister & Cabinet (DPMC).
The approach to the ongoing recovery from the flooding, and Cyclones Hale and Gabrielle will focus on being locally led and centrally supported. The CRU has been established to support the Chief Executive to lead and coordinate the Government's recovery work programme, provide strategic policy and legal advice, support locally led engagement with communities, iwi, business, local government, regional groups and others, coordinate planning and reporting, provide advice on system risk and assurance, ensure alignment with wider policy decisions on long-term resilience, climate change and managed retreat, and provide the secretariat function for the Cyclone Recovery Taskforce.
