Ātea a Rangi is the multi-disciplinary business group led by the Pou Whakatere, Deputy Secretary Māori, and their leadership team which focuses on supporting the Ministry to deliver improved justice outcomes for Māori.
Ātea a Rangi is the Ministry’s te ao Māori policy, strategy, capability, and relationships rōpū. Ātea a Rangi has a role in leading and supporting the Ministry to improve justice outcomes for Māori, supporting the Ministry to improve its capability in te ao me whakaaro Māori, in order to conceive, design and implement effective interventions to make a difference for Māori and all New Zealanders. This is a chance to use your policy experience, machinery of government knowledge, and commitment to Māori aspirations and wellbeing to contribute to a busy and creative work programme.
**Mō tēnei tūranga mahi| About the Role**
The Manager, Strategic Relationships and Engagement will lead and drive the strategic relationships and engagement function of Ātea a Rangi. You will provide thought leadership on strategic relationships and engagement matters to ensure that the Ministry delivers on its Te Tiriti obligations, partners with iwi Māori to deliver services, and improves justice outcomes for whānau, hapū and iwi. The team is also responsible for monitoring and reporting on the Ministry’s Treaty settlement commitments, and on the delivery of the Whakaorangia te Mana Tangata initiative in three sites.
Where individual business within the Ministry choose to lead engagement with iwi/Māori themselves the Strategic Relationships and Engagement Team will provide advice and support where requested.
**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience**
- A tertiary degree in a relevant field is preferable, also keen to hear from those of you who have equivalent life experience
- The ability to articulate perspectives around te ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- You will have the credibility and mana to influence, build and sustain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience engaging strategically with iwi and Māori organisations, whānau, hapū and iwi, as well as Ministers and senior officials
- Competency in Te Reo Māori and tikanga Māori and a demonstrable willingness to share and learn
- Demonstrated public policy experience
- Experience leading and developing teams in a medium to large organisation
- Experience in managing strategy, planning and reporting processes
