**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**

The purpose of this role is to lead the Emergency Management and response function for the Waikato district, giving effect to the strategic health outcomes of Te Whatu Ora by providing leadership to build sustainability, resilience and meaningful culturally safe connections, capabilities, assets, and services with the good of the New Zealand Public Health System in mind, now and for the future.

This is a permanent full-time role.

**Mōu | About you**

You will be able to lead the district service, ensuring that people and financial resources are maximised in delivering effective services to the organisation. To ensure development, planning and implementation of emergency management systems and engagement strategies at a district level, including reporting on progress and ensuring objectives are achieved.

You will leadership to the wider district leadership team as part of on-call arrangements to support emergency threat assessments and response requirements. As well as lead the district response to, and recovery from, emergencies with a health component. This includes providing local leadership and leading the activation and running of a district Health Coordination Centre.

**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**
- Multiple years of experience (in the range of 7+ years) in both a strategic and operational setting at an intermediate/senior level in a large complex organisation in emergency management and capacity/operational service delivery. This includes leading the development, planning and implementation of emergency management systems and engagement strategies, reporting on progress and ensuring objectives are achieved
- The ability to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders at district levels, to work in a range of settings, at all levels, in the Health and Disability Sector, in, with, or across other government agencies.
- Experience making decisions and problem solving in ambiguous and complex environments, both strategically and in an operational setting. This is complemented by having strong verbal and written communication skills, and by being adaptable
- Demonstrated experience in engaging with iwi, hapu and Māori communities and organisations to ensure key stakeholders are reflected throughout all emergency management strategies and planning.
- Demonstrated understanding of the Civil Defence Emergency Management (CDEM) Act 2002 and the CDEM Plan Order 2005
