**Te kāinga rua | The opportunity**

Lead Beca’s Central region Planning and Engagement business to continue its growth and development. This role is primarily a people and business leadership role where you will lead an established local team of approximately 25 planning and engagement specialists ranging from graduates to senior technical directors. The team has a strong reputation for delivering district and regional consenting, policy and plan-making, urban growth and spatial planning, and communications and engagement services throughout the Central region. In addition, the role scope will mean you will also be working on project delivery and management across these service areas.

As manager, you will be playing a lead role in developing a team culture that focusses on purpose, ability, excellence, collaboration, diversity, hard work, fun and team work to deliver innovative and client focused outcomes. Developing, retaining, attracting, and recruiting great talent will be an important focus area. You will develop your team, manage performance and development across the region with the help of your team leaders. You will also be responsible for mentoring and team development, ensuring accountability as well as the achievement of Beca’s commercial and financial performance goals.

Our manager roles are busy, challenging, dynamic and rewarding. Your abilities will be tested and developed, and you will play a significant part in developing our people, delivering on our strategy and ensuring delivery of client and project outcomes. Achieving operational and commercial goals will also be a key part of your role.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be part of Beca’s nationwide Community Shaping business. This means you will have access to a vast range of technical experts and disciplines to support client and project delivery, as well as career development of those in your team. You will also play a leadership role across the Community Shaping business working with, and being supported by, an established leadership team.

Ideally this role will be Wellington based, with scope for the role to be based in other Beca offices covered in our Central region of New Plymouth, Palmerston North or Nelson. Regardless of location, some travel will be expected. The ability to lead a team spread across multiple offices will also be essential.

This role will provide plenty of scope for success to make a real difference for this team, this practice and service area, and influencing the delivery of great client outcomes. You will be a senior practitioner ideally with either experience in, or a strong affinity with, the technical and practice areas in this team (Planning and Engagement). As important though, is your ability to be a relationship builder, ability to operate with credibility in a leadership role across a multi-disciplinary business with a collaborative culture.

You will have people leadership abilities, known as a leader who ‘sets the bar’ in terms of culture and professionalism. You will inspire a positive working environment and you will know how to guide, develop, challenge, and inspire other professionals with experience in 1:1 development focused conversations.

You will enjoy a challenge, be action-focused, display the ability to balance competing time commitments, and comfortable with making commercial judgements. You will be known for and keen to develop your broad management skills across strategy implementation, business development, operations, workflow delivery, financial management, and have a strong understanding of employment issues from a people leadership perspective.
