**Tēnei tūranga - About the Role**:
Our Senior Policy Advisors work across different levels to share their own knowledge with others. With the wide variety of work across the different policy areas, there are numerous development opportunities to grow and build their careers within MBIE.

**About the team**:
The Immigration (International and Humanitarian) Policy team provides advice on immigration policies related to refugee and humanitarian settings, international engagement, Pacific migration, and national security settings.

**We are currently working on projects such as**:

- Review of the Recognised Seasonal Employer Policy
- Refresh of the New Zealand Migrant Settlement and Integration Strategy and the Refugee Resettlement Strategy
- The future of the Ukraine special humanitarian visa
- Working holiday scheme policy management
- Supporting international reporting for the immigration system
- Legislative changes to introduce a community management order in the immigration system
- Reviewing family reunification settings for refugee and other humanitarian migrants
- Contributing to strategic and regulatory stewardship work to provide a cohesive view of the immigration system.

The International and Humanitarian team works alongside two other Immigration Policy teams (Border and Funding, Skills and Residence) and the three teams regularly come together to share ideas and discuss key topics. All team members have opportunities to engage with Ministers, industry, and communities.

The team sits within the Labour, Science and Enterprise Group at MBIE where connections are made to how immigration settings can align with and support wider labour market and economic objectives. We also work closely with other agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and with refugee and migrant communities and advocates.

The team also works closely with Immigration New Zealand to ensure that operational considerations are part of policy analysis, and that there is policy oversight of how policies are being implemented.

We are looking for motivated people with experience in problem solving complex problems and formulating high-quality policy advice for a range of stakeholders and projects.

**Ideally you will have**:

- Experience leading complex policy projects within central government
- Wide ranging knowledge of policy development disciplines and processes
- Strong stakeholder relationship building, influencing and engagement skills to gain the cooperation and commitment of others
- Demonstrated capability in working with Ministers, senior public service officials, internal and external stakeholders
- Passion for leading and coaching others to develop their policy craft and take their careers to the next level
- The ability to work through ambiguity and deliver results
