The Department of Medicine at the University of Otago, Christchurch has a mission to improve the lives of people in New Zealand through health education and research. The Department hosts some of the most productive researchers in New Zealand with particular strengths in heart health, brain research and musculoskeletal medicine. The Department houses over 100 academic researchers, many of whom have clinical roles in the Canterbury District Health Board.

The Department is physically housed in Christchurch Hospital and has close links to other departments in the University (including Pathology & Biomedical Science) and hospital Departments (including Cardiology and the Emergency Department) and throughout the Christchurch and regional hospital campuses.

**_ The role/Te mahi_**

As a Research Assistant within the Gastroenterology Department, you will manage and recruit clinical trial participants at risk of metabolic syndrome and their whanau in a clinical trial of a diet intervention.

This role will involve the coordination and recruitment of study participants and the processing of laboratory and questionnaire data into appropriate databases for subsequent study.

- To be successful in this role you will have:

- An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
- Laboratory science experience.
- The ability to work as part of a team.
- Knowledge of research methods.
- The ability to engage with potential participants to maximise recruitment into the cohort.
