**We are looking for**:

- A highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist to join our Soil & Land science team.
- Someone who is seeking the flexibility of a permanent part-time (20 hours per week) position.
- Someone with an ability to think strategically, and work collaboratively and creatively to maintain and enhance environmental outcomes.
- Knowledge, skills, and experience relevant to soil science, particularly in the areas of soil hydrology and soil resource information.
- Interest and experience in working with the soils of the Waikato region.
- Someone with a strong interest in pedology and/or soil physics.
- A relevant post-graduate qualification (e.g., MSc or PhD) or significant relevant work experience in natural, physical, or environmental sciences (or related disciplines).
- Six or more years of experience working in soil and land science, environmental science, or a related field.

**About the role:
- Based within Waikato Regional Council’s Science, Policy & Information directorate which is responsible for delivering high quality science and information to inform robust strategic thinking and proactive policy advice to decision makers and stakeholders.
- Encompasses workstreams relating to soil hydrology and soil resource information.
- Focused primarily around managing and maintaining our regional soil moisture monitoring network (and data) and managing the regional S-map soil mapping programme (and associated soil resource information).
- Will likely involve working on improving the available data on soil hydraulic characteristics, hydric soil identification, the management and provision of soil resource data and may assist with the regional mapping of highly productive land in relation to the National Policy Statement for Highly Productive Land.
- Providing technical expertise and advice to internal and external stakeholders in relation to soil hydrology and soil resource information.
