NIWA is a dynamic research organisation and New Zealand's largest and pre-eminent provider of climate, freshwater, and marine science. Our core purpose is to enhance the economic value and sustainable management of New Zealand's aquatic resources and environments, to provide an understanding of climate and the atmosphere, and increase resilience to weather and climate hazards to improve the safety and wellbeing of New Zealanders.

The National Centre for Climate, Atmosphere and Hazards team undertakes research and consultancy services that provides impartial scientific advice to wide range of sectors in New Zealand and the Pacific on the region's climate and its impacts.

**What we're looking for**:
As well as an advanced understanding of climate science, the position requires well-developed analytical skills and a passion for growing data-driven research and consultancy services. The position will also collaborate across NIWA's National Centres, including with colleagues in the Te Kūwaha (Māori Environmental Research), Pacific Rim, Freshwater, and Oceans centres, to support and contribute to a wide range of research and consultancy services.

**What you will bring**:

- To be successful in this position you will have a track record developing and delivering applied climate and/or environmental research, advice and/or guidance products and/or services for sectors such as government, Māori, agribusinesses, and/or industry.
- You'll bring a proven ability of building strong relationships with customers and stakeholders and have had exposure to policy and/or operational management of climate-related impacts on natural resources, primary production and/or infrastructure that is sensitive to climate variability and extremes.
- Experience related to leading bids, responding to tenders, and the delivery of multidisciplinary projects is advantageous.
- Your experience in delivering impact for end-users will be complemented by your background in climate and/or environmental science, including a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
- You'll have a proven ability to communicate research findings both verbally and in written forms, experience in conducting analytical research, and are likely to be an adept scientific coder.
- Experience in visualisation techniques for climate datasets and climate indices for communicating findings to clients is a plus.

**A bit about the position**:
The preferred location for this position is Auckland, New Zealand's largest city. NIWA's Auckland office is situated near the vibrant city waterfront, with easy access to public transport options as well as free parking for staff. Along with remuneration in the range $85,000 to $125,000, depending on skills and experience, we offer a wide range of benefits and the opportunity to be part of a nationwide team of world class climate science specialists.

The position involves working a 37.5-hour week. NIWA offers flexible working options (e.g., part-time, flexible start and finish times). We are happy to discuss potential flexible options for this position at the interview stage.
