NZQA is seeking an exceptional Chief Operating Officer (COO) - Assessment Delivery to join our team. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive Assessment, the COO will drive the overall direction and strategy for the delivery of the NCEA assessment cycle and for the development, review and maintenance of some unit standards and qualifications.
The COO will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence, overseeing day-to-day operations, and implementing strategies to optimise efficiency and effectiveness in delivering assessment products and services.
Applications from leaders with experience in manufacturing excellence, complex quality control environments, operations management, strong team development leadership skills, and a proven track record in successfully leading complex service delivery in a dynamic and fast-paced environment are encouraged to inquire about the role.
Skills and experience
- Experienced leader and manager who builds high performing teams.
- Experience at a senior level within the Public Sector including sound understanding of machinery of government, policy development, implementation, and review.
- A demonstrated commitment to the principles of the TeTiriti o Waitangi.
- A customer centric mindset, focusing on providing internal and external stakeholders with the best possible service experience
- A data driven approach to decision making and daily operations
- Ability to plan, organise, monitor and deliver at a strategic and operational level
- The ability to work effectively across multiple streams of work
- Experience with vendor management on large scale outsourcing contracts
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage in highly technical discussions, as well as clearly and concisely communicate with non-technical business users
- The capability to work in a fast-paced and agile environment with a strong sense of urgency and a focus on delivering to deadlines
- The ability to engage with others in the organization to help build an open, supportive and positive working environment
- A sound business acumen, including experience with managing budgets and financial planning relevant to specific areas of a business
- The ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Outstanding problem-solving skills, with the capability to break down complex problems into manageable pieces, and work methodically through to resolution
- 10+ years of experience in operational / programme management position - a demonstrated track record in managing people and core business services from a process, technology, and compliance perspective
