Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
The Principal Adviser Organisational Resilience is responsible for driving organisational change to increase resilience capability for both Disruption Management and Business Continuity.
The Principal Adviser Organisational Resilience will support the development, implementation, validation, improvement and ongoing support of disruption management and business continuity. Specifically this position supports the achievement of the Ministry’s strategic priorities and high level outcomes as outlined under the key accountabilities.
This is both an operational and strategic role that requires a high performing people and thought leader. Communications, stakeholder engagement and leadership skills are vital to the success of the role in both dealing with the Ministry’s senior leadership, key external stakeholders and mentoring staff in Incident Management and development and validation of Business Continuity Plans.
- Accountable for leading and driving the development of the Ministry’s OR capability and maturity (including Business Continuity and Disruption Management) through ensuring resilience practices, behaviours and attitudes are embedded and embraced by Ministry staff into their day to day activities
- Provide expert input and advice on OR and assist in implementation and driving of the development, testing and execution of the Organisational Resilience capability (including Business Continuity, Disruption Management)
- Provide timely and practical advice to staff in Wellington and overseas at Embassy’s and High Commissions on a range of OR issues

The full salary range for this role is $140,000 to $190,000 total remuneration, inclusive of our 3% KiwiSaver employer contribution.

We’d like to hear from you if you are an experienced business continuity and emergency management practitioner with the following skills and experience:
- Strong track record in leading and delivering Organisational Resilience including business continuity and disruption management
- Excellent contacts and confidence to make more across the National Security and ODESC system
- Ability to explain business continuity and disruption management principles, simply, to a wide audience
We are aware that this is a bit of a “unicorn” role so if you are strong in either business continuity or emergency management and have good knowledge in the other then we would still be keen to hear from you as long as you are interested in continuing to grow.
Ideally you will also have a good understanding of tikanga (Māori customs and protocols), with the ability to weave te ao Māori (the Māori worldview) into your work.
If you are just starting on this journey that’s OK too - as long as you have a willingness to learn and a desire to develop your cultural capability. As a Te Tiriti o Waitangi partner, this is important to us and we offer training and support.
