Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (TWoA) is New Zealand’s second largest tertiary institution, and we’ve been providing transformational education opportunities to New Zealanders for over 35 years. Our vision of **‘Whānau transformation through education’** drives our commitment to being at the forefront of tertiary education underpinned by Māori culture and values.

Ko ngā uara (our values) are woven throughout the actions we take to achieve great outcomes for our tauira (students) and kaimahi (employees):

- ** Te Aroha**:Having regard for one another and those for whom we are responsible and to whom we are accountable.
- ** Te Whakapono**:The basis of our beliefs and the confidence that what we are doing is right.
- ** Ngā Ture**:The knowledge that our actions are morally and ethically right and that we are acting in an honourable manner.
- ** Kotahitanga**:Unity amongst iwi and other ethnicities; standing as one.

**About the role**

Do you have a passion for changing lives and making a profound impact? We are on the lookout for an extraordinary kaiako to join our close-knit team on a casual basis, assisting us with relieving at the **Waikeria Prison. **We are more than an organisation and we’re a whānau that believes in the transformation power of education. Our mission is simple, yet powerful: to provide Literacy and Numeracy Support Services (LNSS) within the prison environment, giving individuals the tools, they need to reimagine their future and step into a world to further their education.

As an inspiring kaiako, your responsibilities will include:

- Develop tailored individual plans and lessons.
- Lead learning sessions that enhance the skills and competencies of our tauira.
- Contribute to the development of teaching materials, such as handouts and study resources.
- Be the voice of LNSS, sharing our vision, goals, and plans internally and externally.
- Maintain records of tauira assessments results, attendance, progress, and feedback.
- Conduct assessments with the LNAAT and translate results into actionable insights.
- Ensure we comply and meet regulatory requirements, including those set out by Ara Poutama Aotearoa/Department of Corrections.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $29.15 to $32.27, based on qualifications and experience.

**About you**

To truly excel in this role, we’re looking for someone who embodies the essence of what we do. We are seeking an individual who excels at establishing and nurturing strong relationships with various stakeholders, including Ara Poutama Aotearoa/Department of Corrections kaimahi, tertiary providers delivering educational programs within prisons and relevant external groups within the region. To succeed in this capacity, we are looking for someone who has the following:

- Be an on-call reliver Monday to Thursday
- Be comfortable working in a Corrections Facility.
- National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (Vocational) - Level 5.
- Certificate in Te Reo Māori or Tikanga Level 2/4 or equivalent knowledge.
- A formal adult learning and training qualification(s) would be advantageous.
- Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience successfully delivering Literacy and Numeracy training to at risk or second chance learners.
- A full NZ drivers license.
- Due to the nature of the position, a stringent police check in mandatory to ensure access to Ara Poutama Aotearoa/Department of Corrections facilities.

We value experience in successful delivering literacy and numeracy support to at-risk or second-chance learners, preferably in the tertiary education sector or within a prison environment. Your experience, knowledge and keeping pace with the ever-evolving field of adult teaching will be a valuable resource to our organisation.
