**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**
The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
We have an exciting permanent opportunity as **Pasifika Oranga**. The role will be based in Tokoroa. The purpose of this role based within the community is to be integral to building sustainable, long-term partnerships with a range of Pacific Peoples and community groups and to support the regional public health service in Te Manawa Taki to deliver initiatives that eliminate health inequities, enable Pacific communities to thrive and realise Pae Ora.

You will foster meaningful connections with Pacific communities, enhancing workforce capabilities, and promoting a deep understanding of Pacific cultures. Your expertise will be in championing Pacific equity in various initiatives, projects and services and you will believe in the power of collaboration to create positive change. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that Pacific voices are heard and valued in the realm of public health - across disease prevention, health promotion and health protection activities. **Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**
- Competence in at least one Pacific language
- Knowledge and understanding of Pacific cultural protocols, values, history and stories and/or a willingness to develop this
- Ability to coach and guide others in approaching Pacific people in a health literate, client-centred way that takes into account the practicalities of people's lives
- Lived experience or significant experience working alongside under served communities (eg: Tangata Whaikaha, aiga with experience in the Justice System, rural communities, transitional housing, LGBTQIA+)
- Established relationship with Pacific leaders in the area you will be working
- Basic technology skills and a willingness to learn new systems
- Providing advice and support
- A commitment to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi and anti-racism practice
- A creative flair and ability to think outside the box
