High-profile, strategic leadership position
Influence and shape health policy
Help set the course for the future of healthcare in New Zealand
This is an opportunity to bring to bear your years of experience in strategic and clinical leadership.
Ko wai mātou - About Us
At Manatū Hauora - Ministry of Health we are the kaitiaki of the health system, providing leadership and driving strategy and performance. We regulate the health sector and are the primary source of advice on health matters. Our mahi ensures New Zealanders are cared for by a health system that is innovative, future focussed and world leading.
Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do
Working alongside our Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Allied Health Professions Officer, and reporting directly to the Director-General of Health, your leadership and advice will guide the system's strategy and policy to ensure that clinicians are able and empowered to deliver the health services that every New Zealander deserves.
This is an influential role. It's about looking to the future and shaping health policy at a systems and national level. Your expert advice will inform direction and strategy, and help the Ministry advise on the big decisions that ultimately achieve the Governments health and wellbeing objectives.
Leadership and communication are mainstays of this role, along with extensive experience as a clinician and professional knowledge of national and international policy issues. You'll be someone who knows how important it is to build relationships with people from all parts of the health system, cultures and communities and to work together to manage issues.
Ko ngā pukenga ōu - What You'll Bring
Over the years, you'll have built up a nationally respected profile within the medical profession, and a strong understanding of the complementary, and sometimes conflicting, roles played by the government, the private sector and professional organisations in healthcare. With a keen knowledge of, and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, you'll have a wealth of experience working successfully in a range of diverse cultural contexts, especially in delivering services for Māori and Pasifika.
With so much going on, and so much important work to do, this is absolutely a career-defining role - and one where you can help set the course for the future of healthcare in New Zealand.
