Ko ake mahi - What you'll do

The Chief Advisor to the Director-General of Health serves as the primary liaison for responding to and resolving high-priority issues or complex problems. Working directly to the Director-General of Health, you'll be a key strategic partner and dynamic senior leader that can translate strategic objectives and operational priorities into action to achieve measurable results.

In this position you will have the opportunity to:

  • Work directly with the Director-General of Health and act as a delegate as required.
  • Be the primary liaison for responding swiftly to emerging issues, demonstrating agility, strategic thinking and thought leadership.
  • Provide senior leadership, quality advice and support for critical projects.
  • Work in a dynamic and hugely varied sector, with a deeply engaged and passionate workforce that are committed to improving the health of New Zealanders.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Significant health or social sector experience at a senior level
  • Experience in translating strategic vision and operational priorities into actionable strategies and driving momentum for complex projects
  • Strong political acumen and demonstrated experience operating within a complex organisational and political environment.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills with a track record of successful project and work delivery.
  • Relationship building skills to collaborate on issues, working with cross-functional teams and bringing people together for a common goal/s
  • Understand our Treaty of Waitangi obligations and how that applies to the NZ health system
