Auckland City, New Zealand Niche Full time

**Director, Health Equity**

Mary Potter Hospice provides specialist palliative care services for people living in Wellington, Porirua and Kāpiti. We provide equitable, compassionate, patient
- and whānau
- centred, free-of-charge hospice care for patients, families, whānau and carers in the places they call home, and at our Inpatient Unit in Newtown.

**About the opportunity**

Mary Potter Hospice has well-established Health Equity Programme and a deep commitment to ensuring that aroha, manaakitanga, mana, rangatiratanga and kaitiakitanga are woven through everything we do. As the new Director, Health Equity, you will drive the Hospice’s ongoing commitment to create an environment that is accessible and welcoming for Māori, Pasifika and other people who are often not well served by the health system.

The Director, Health Equity sits on the Executive team and contributes to the overall strategic leadership, culture, planning and monitoring of the Hospice. Bringing a te ao Māori perspective, you will provide advice on the Hospice’s response to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and will foster strong relationships with mana whenua (who are formally represented on the Hospice Board), Māori health providers and other key stakeholders.

As a key connector in the organisation, you will help to nurture and integrate the work of the Cultural Liaison clinical staff; lead the kaimahi Māori network and facilitate the Hospice Tiriti partners group and the Pasifika Advisory Group. You will also advise on the delivery of cultural and pro-equity education for staff and pro-equity workforce recruitment and retention strategies.

The role is based in Newtown and works across the Hospice’s bases in Wellington, Porirua and Kāpiti.

**About You**

The successful applicant will bring:

- Experience building cultural capability including incorporating knowledge of Te Ao Māori and responses to Te Tiriti o Waitangi into organisational culture and service delivery.
- A deep understanding of Te Ao Māori and knowledge of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga.
- A good understanding of Pasifika culture.
- Sound analysis of health inequities, colonisation, racism, and exclusion.
- Executive-level experience in change management, project delivery, coaching, communication, network building and leadership.
- Strong local and national networks with Iwi, Māori service providers / stakeholders and Pasifika service providers / stakeholders.

Additionally, experience planning and delivering educational workshops would be an advantage, as would experience in service delivery, preferably within the health sector.

Most importantly, you will have a commitment to developing a personal understanding of the ‘heart of the matter’ at Mary Potter, which is the provision of high quality, compassionate patient
- and whānau-centred specialist palliative care. Your ability to reflect this understanding will enable you to bring the organisational values to life in the delivery of your role and responsibilities.

To apply, please submit your cover letter and resumē by the closing date of 5pm Friday, 8 March.
