**Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role**

As Associate Director of Midwifery (Māori), you will be supporting the Director of Midwifery and have a dotted reporting line: to Kaiwhakahaere Ratonga - Māori Provider Services with the Director of Māori Health.

You will work in partnership to improve the health and wellbeing of our community and reduce health inequities, enabling the delivery of excellent health services for women / pregnant people and pēpi. The role will also provide professional and cultural leadership, supporting culturally responsive midwifery care throughout the District.

This role is to lead the development of an environment where all midwives aspire to work and where employees are supported to excel. Your role is to support the creation of services that are culturally responsive and prioritise equitable health outcomes.

The role has been created to further develop, support and maintain recruitment and retention strategies for Māori midwives. A key part of the role is a focus on growing workforces that are representative of our communities and developing cultural capability across the midwifery workforce.

The Associate Director of Midwifery Māori will work collaboratively in providing leadership for the Midwifery workforces across the District.

Generally the expected work hours of the ADoM Maōri role are Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am and 5pm. There is a need for some flexibility as the role holder may be asked to support a senior midwife on-call roster as part of the Variance Response Management response.

**Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team**

The Director of Midwifery team will comprise three ADOM roles to support the midwifery sector. This team is responsible for professional leadership across the district. We are dynamic, flexible and responsive to multiple priorities. Leading excellence in quality midwifery standards of practice and professional conduct, supporting the development of sustainable maternity services; and leading with influence across the wider system. This includes helping to strengthen the midwifery voice at all levels as well as championing new models of care, workforce planning and development, and innovations in practice, this is a varied role which will interest a creative thinker who can easily transfer theoretical ideas into structural processes. We work in a fast-paced environment where team members will be expected to produce independent results as well as contribute to the overall strategic thinking.

The team works closely with maternity services across the district including secondary and tertiary maternity services at Wellington Regional Hospital, secondary maternity services at Hutt Hospital, and primary maternity services at Kenepuru Hospital and the Kāpiti Health Centre.

**Moū - About you**

We are looking for someone who has the following skills and experience:

- Registered Midwife with current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC)
- Post-graduate qualification or equivalent in Midwifery, Māori Health, Public Health as a minimum (or a commitment to work towards this)
- Knowledge and understanding of equity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Turanga Kaupapa and implications for midwifery practice
- Experience and/or knowledge of research particularly in relation to pro-equity and equitable health outcomes in the maternity setting
- An exemplary understanding and commitment to the maternity system across all settings
- Ability to effectively and credibly communicate with various audiences demonstrating an adaptive style that creates confidence and trust.
