**About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga**

The Senior Advisor, ESOL will work to ensure access to effective ESOL support in schools for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) ākonga, including those from a refugee and migrant background.

**Key priorities for this role include**:

- engaging with the school sector to build an understanding of CALD ākonga
- designing and implementing ESOL initiatives and supports to bring about changes which increase student presence, participation and progress in education and monitoring and evaluating the progress and impact of these supports.
- This role will prioritise working on supporting the secondary school sector

**As the Senior Advisor ESOL you will**:

- Provide advice to the sector about ESOL support which has a sound evidence base, identifies, and assesses options, risks and implications and presents clear recommendations;
- Lead and administer portfolios and initiatives, deliver specific projects and co-ordinate the provision of specialised input for CALD Ākonga.
- Work closely with other Ministry teams and government organisations (e.g. on qualifications, learning support and resources)

**About you | Mōhou ake**

To be successful in this role you will be able to work independently, as well as collaboratively with colleagues. You will be an effective communicator; kind, clear and concise.

**You will also offer**:

- A tertiary qualification in a relevant field
- A teaching ESOL specific qualification preferably from an Aotearoa NZ provider e.g. TESOL diploma or postgraduate qualification
- NZ teaching registration
- Recent teaching experience in a NZ secondary school
