A permanent full-time opportunity is now on offer for an exceptional Director Stakeholder Communications. This role will continue to lead the development of Stakeholder Communications capability within NZ Customs.
Based in the Wellington Customhouse, the Director Stakeholder Communications will lead and manage the Stakeholder Communications team, providing strategic leadership in the areas of stakeholder engagement, communications, media management, correspondence reviews and ministerial services. The position works closely with Customs' Chief Executive Board to develop the Customs' stakeholder engagement strategy and frameworks that deliver on Customs' strategic outcomes.
**About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi**
Leading a group of approximately 24 staff (including 4 direct reports), the Director Stakeholder Communications will guide the development of Customs' policies, processes and standards for ministerial briefings, Parliamentary questions, ministerial correspondence, complaints, reviews of seizure, inter-agency information requests, and requests for information.
The Director Stakeholder Communications will also be accountable for the proactive management of the Customs brand and communications performance, and will lead and manage the communications and media function, determining and implementing strategic direction.
**_ The salary range for this role is paying between $156,184 - $183,746 per-annum (based on relevant skillset and experience)._**
**To be successful as Director Stakeholder Communications, the appointee requires the following knowledge, experience, skills and personal attributes**:
- A relevant tertiary education qualification or equivalent;
- An in-depth understanding of the machinery of government and the how public service interacts with Ministers;
- Experience taking a proactive approach to communications to maintain the confidence of the public and stakeholders in the work of Customs. An understanding of the different channels needed to reach a diverse range of stakeholders;
- Leadership and managerial abilities to lead teams and develop capabilities;
- Experience developing people and making them the best they can be;
- A clear understanding of the communication needs of operational agencies responsible for delivering law enforcement and/or trade facilitation outcomes for New Zealand
- A commitment to transparent government, and experience working with media and official information requests;
- An ability to multi task and develop networks across government in support of Customs' goals;
- Experience in setting clear priorities, and demonstrated competence in understanding and mitigating organisational and reputational risk and preventing reputational damage to New Zealand and/or Customs;
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

To join Customs in any role you must be a **New Zealand citizen** or **New Zealand permanent resident** and for this role, be able to obtain and maintain an Organisational Security clearance along with being able to obtain and maintain security clearance to **'Top Secret'** level.

You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level.
