Ko tā mātou mahi - Our Role
The Associate General Counsel - Litigation is a significant thought leader in all dispute resolution matters relevant to Kāinga Ora. The Associate General Counsel - Litigation is responsible for developing the Kāinga Ora litigation strategy with the General Counsel and managing the multi-million litigation portfolio efficiently and effectively including overseeing and resolving:

- Commercial disputes, including construction and weathertight litigation;
- Tenancy disputes and appeals;
- Judicial review and Ombudsman complaints;
- Tribunal cases, including but not limited to the Waitangi Tribunal and Human Rights Review Tribunal; Coronial cases and mortality review committee responses; and

any other such litigation or disputes that may arise from time to time that is required by the General Counsel.
This role provides the Kāinga Ora business with innovative dispute resolution expertise, ensures Kāinga Ora has appropriate legal representation in Court (at all levels) and provides high quality, legal and strategic advice. The role is expected to advise the General Counsel on the litigation component of their budget and identify innovative ways to reduce spend without compromising on service delivery. In achieving delivery of its functional objectives, the role will work closely with the Associate General Counsels in Property, Construction, Public Law, Operations and Māori Interests whilst reporting directly to the General Counsel. The role will represent Kāinga Ora nationally.

To be successful in this role the Associate General Counsel Litigation will have:

- Demonstrated ability to lead strategically using deliberate, thoughtful long-term thinking, whilst balancing current business needs and preparing for and responding to future challenges and opportunities;
- Demonstrated experience leading highly skilled, high performing and engaged management and professional legal teams in a multi-faceted and demanding environment;
- Strong experience in litigation management and strategy and dispute resolution;
- Ability to anticipate, identify and resolve complex multi disciplinary legal issues;
- Ability to act quickly, provide strategic advice and make decisions with less than perfect information;
- A good working understanding of Te Ao Māori;
- Excellent interpersonal, relationship management and networking skills;
- Experience navigating and operating in a regulated environment, experience working constructively across functions and track record of building and maintaining the trust of all stakeholders;
- Effective decision maker based on medium to long term imperatives;
- Very high standards of personal ethics and integrity.
