Mō te tūranga - About the role

Our Legal team is critical to helping us deliver on our purpose. In this role you will join ANZ’s accomplished Legal team and will provide legal support to assist ANZ to comply with its legal and regulatory obligations, with a particular focus on litigation matters, strengthening ANZ’s relationships with regulators and implementing new or amended regulatory requirements.

**As a Senior Counsel you will**:
Provide timely, high quality, commercially focused advice on a range of regulatory and litigation matters.

Assist ANZ to mitigate and manage litigation and regulatory risks.

Engage and build critical working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders including, ensuring ANZ’s interests are well represented

Anticipate the commercial impact to ANZ of law reform proposals and manage legal risk in business context; collaborate with relevant stakeholders to prepare the business for relevant regulatory/legislative change

Support a culture where Legal team is the guardian of the bank's balance sheet, strategy and reputation

Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
At least 5 years’ post-qualification experience from a top tier NZ law firm or large organisation (or equivalent foreign firm) with a focus on litigation or regulatory matters.

Strong interpersonal skills, with the confidence to liaise effectively with individuals at all levels including senior management.

Excellent written and verbal communication, workflow management and organisational skills.

A detail-oriented, curious, and pragmatic problem-solving mindset and the ability to make sound judgements.

An ability to provide commercially relevant legal advice

A great understanding of banks and the commercial and regulatory environment in which they operate
